Hook and loop (Velcro) is the most common choice for tactical vests and duty gear since it lets officers move patches between uniforms. Sew-on is standard for dress uniforms.
Embroidered and woven patches hold up well through regular uniform cleaning. For gear that sees heavier field use, PVC is the more durable option.
